From the very start Nancy were at the top. In the first round in the match against Rennes they showed that this will be a good season for them and now they have the chance to wrap it up against the same rivals.
Third place would mean as if they have won the title. No one gave them much chance for such a good place on the start, mostly because of weak last season. Last season they spent most of it near bottom but we should mention that they played in UEFA cup then. They felt how hard it is to play in Europe and that it can cost a lot. They were quite good in UEFA Cup but nothing worked in domestic championship. Only when they got eliminated from UEFA Cup, did they start playing the way they can and easily secured a place in the midtable.
This season they had the chance to focus on domestic championship and they absolutely deserved to be at the top. They spent most of the first part of the season on the first place, but Lyon and then Bordeaux lifted their form and Nancy had to settle with the third place. But they must win Rennes which won’t at all be easy.
Last week they lost away to Lyon in a tough match. They played in their style, left the midfield to their rivals but with quite an organized defense. After Juninho’s excellent cross, Andre Luiz scored an own goal. They didn’t have luck, but on the other hand they did, since Marseille didn’t use that.
They have many injuries and they again won’t be able to count on several important players. Defenders Puygrenier, Sauget, and attackers Hadji and Kim won’t be able to help their side.
